SRINAGAR: Ahead of Republic Day celebrations, Director General of Police RR Swain said that police won’t allow inimical elements to disturb peace in Jammu and Kashmir and that they are ready to deal with such threats.

The DGP also spoke about public durbar being moved out of Srinagar and Jammu headquarters, police action against drug menace and recognising of services by Special Police Officers (SPOs).

He stated, “It is a two-point program aimed to achieve double benefit. First, to resolve problems of our people, and second to get connected and closer to your people.”

Expressing concern over the escalating drug menace, Swain outlined the police’s rigorous approach to gathering details on those involved in drug peddling. He Stressed the distinction between perpetrators and victims, stating, “We think those involved superficially in the trade are not sinners but victims.”

Swain declared a comprehensive mapping initiative over the next three to four months to address drug peddlers at the grassroots level. “We are working to fetch each and every detail of those involved in drug peddling. In every district, we have taken up the task vigorously.”

He warned of strict actions against those involved in trafficking hard drugs across borders and announced the permanent blacklisting of such individuals.

Recognizing the integral role of Special Police Officers (SPOs), Swain assured perks and medical assistance, with housing schemes under consideration.

Addressing the persistent threat in the border state, he stated, “J&K Police stands with you. We are ready to deal with such threats. It is obvious that people of Jammu and Kashmir want to live their life as a law abiding citizen. They have shunned path of violence, stone pelting etc. They want to strengthen law of the land, and we can’t allow elements inimical to peace to disturb the life of peaceful citizens. We are ready to deal with such threats,” he said.

He appealed to citizens for nation-building contributions, assuring that the police will maintain law and order and protect businesses and trade.

“Terrorists and their handlers want to continue their shops but we won’t make them succeed. We want to assure people that J&K Police stands with you, whatever the situation will be. We appeal to our people to contribute in nation building. I want to assure them that J&K Police will maintain law and order and protect your business and trade,” he added.(KNS).
