DELHI: The World Crafts Council (WCC), in collaboration with the Export Promotion Council for Handicrafts (EPCH) and supported by the Development Commissioner of Handicrafts, is set to host the inaugural World Crafts Forum 2024. In addition to these, the Forum will witness the launch of the Value of Crafts Report and a commemorative coffee table book celebrating 60 years of the WCC. A UNESCO-curated World Creative and Craft Cities Round Table will focus on building synergies between UNESCO Creative Cities and WCC World Crafts Cities to enhance livelihoods and drive sustainable economic growth.
The Srinagar segment of the Forum, held from November 25-27, will celebrate the city’s designation as a UNESCO Creative City of Craft and Folk Arts. Showcasing the rich heritage of Kashmir’s crafts, including its renowned Pashmina weaving and intricate woodwork, this leg aims to spotlight Srinagar’s pivotal role in the global crafts ecosystem.
Dr Darlie Koshy, Strategic Advisor for the Forum, said that the theme, “Crafts Connecting the World,” focuses on leveraging crafts to shape a sustainable future. Smt. Amrit Raj, Development Commissioner for Handicrafts, emphasised India’s commitment to preserving its crafts while fostering global collaboration.
The Forum will conclude with the WCC Diamond Jubilee Delhi Declaration, which will lay the groundwork for a global revival of the crafts movement.
