Sher -I-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences Soura Srinagar on Thursday celebrated the World Kidney Day (WKD), celebrated each year on 2nd Thursday of March. It is a global awareness campaign focusing on the importance of kidneys and reducing the frequency and impact of kidney diseases and its associated health problems.

The spokesman said today 13th World Kidney Day and International Women’s Day are being celebrated throughout the world. This year theme of WKD is kidneys and women’s Health.

In SKIMS, department of Nephrology organised the World Kidney Day celebration in the SKIMS Auditorium were different experts including Professor G H Malik, Ex-HOD, Nephrology; Dr Muzaffar Maqsood Wani, Associate Professor, Nephrology; professor M Saleem Wani, HOD, Urology; Dr Syed Basina, HOD, Pathology; Dr Rabia from the Department of Gynecology delivered lectures to the audience which comprised mainly of Faculty from SKIMS, SKIMS MC, Bemina, SKIMS Nursing College and students from SKIMS Deemed University.

In addition to other SKIMS employees belonging to different sections also attended the same.

HOD, Nephrology and Organizing Chairman of the event, Professor M Ashraf Bhat, explain the importance of World Kidney Day celebration. He emphasized the need to aware the common people about proper control of Blood Pressure and Blood Sugar (Diabetes & Hypertension constitute about 2/3rd of the causes of Chronic Kidney Disease) and to avoid self-medication.
