SRINAGAR: Police have arrested JKLF leader Yasin Malik in a south Kashmir village. He was accompanied by his aide Noor Mohammad Kalwal, reports said.

Malik had gone to see the family of Sarjan Barkati, the man who emerged as the pied piper of the 2016 unrest, with his peculiar style of mass engagement. Barkati is behind bars and was recently re-arrested under Public Safety Act. Off late, there were reports in the media that the separatist leaders have forgotten Barkati’s family and children which apparently was the motivation for Malik to visit his home.

Barkati lives in Reban village in Shopian. He has two kids and a wife. Currently, he is being held at Central Jail in Srinagar. In his last presentation before the court, he alleged the police at Shopian has beat him and broke his two teeth.

Reports said when Malik came out of Barkati’s home, he was arrested by police. They had laid a cordon sort of a thing around Barkati’s residence when Malik was inside. They later arrested the two and took them to some police station, reports said.
