SRINAGAR: The Food Safety Department in Anantnag has seized 150 kgs of suspected dates and collected multiple samples for laboratory testing as part of a market inspection drive ahead of the holy month of Ramadan.
The dates were confiscated during a joint inspection conducted across various markets by officials from the Food Safety Department, FCS&CA, and Legal Metrology Department. The samples have been sent to an NABL-accredited laboratory for detailed analysis.
During the inspection, six Food Business Operators (FBOs) were found violating provisions of the Food Safety & Standards Act, 2006, and have been recommended for compounding under Section 69 of the Act.
The operation focused on ensuring the availability of safe and wholesome food, particularly in establishments selling dates, fresh fruits, vegetables, and other edibles. The inspection team also enforced price and weight regulations to protect consumer rights.
Authorities have cautioned the public against purchasing food items that are improperly labelled, urging vigilance while buying consumables. Officials further assured that regular inspections will continue to maintain food quality, prevent malpractices, and safeguard consumer interests.
