SRINAGAR: National Education Policy (NEP)-2020 is a vision document that will transform the education sector in India, particularly in Jammu and Kashmir, said Director School Education Kashmir (DSEK), Dr G N Itoo. Addressing a conference in Ganderbal, he said that the policy aims to make Jammu and Kashmir an “Educational Hub” through initiatives outlined in the recent budget.
As part of these initiatives, 15,000 pre-primary schools will be developed under early childhood education, with a target enrolment of 180,000 children. In the field of educational technology and digitisation, 600 ICT labs, 2,000 smart classrooms, and 52 Tinkering labs will be established. The Universal Education initiative aims to bring 46,000 out-of-school children into the education system, with a focus on girls’ education.
Dr Itoo said that NEP-2020 will introduce skill-based training in schools to equip students with practical knowledge. He also announced that awareness programmes will be held in all 374 clusters of the Kashmir Valley to inform students and parents about the benefits of the policy.
