As the devastating floods of September 2014 complete one year, Darul Khair Mirwaiz Manzil Sunday organized an Award Ceremony at the Auditorium of Islamia Higher Secondary School Rajouri Kadal to honour those “Real Heroes” and brave hearts of Kashmir who exhibited tremendous courage and valour during last year’s devastating flood.
Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, the Patron of Darul Khair gave away medals and memorabilia to 25 religious, social and political organizations which were on the forefront of relief and rehabilitation work. 35 individuals from different walks of life were also felicitated who exhibited great courage in saving human lives during last year’s flood. Apart from that around 70 youth volunteers were given certificates who rendered their services in different relief and rescue operations, and also volunteered for Darul Khair’s “AkhAkis” Initiative.
During his inaugural speech, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq lauded the courage of people, especially youth, during and in the aftermath of the flood in relief and rehabilitation work, and thanked the good samaratans who offered monetary help and assistance in undertaking the “Akis Akis” initiative for building houses for the flood affected.
He said that such initiatives were aimed to invigorate the society with the spirit of community service, collaboration, self-help and self-reliance.
Mirwaiz stated when the whole nation was facing floods and the government had disappeared from the scene, the volunteers, youth and representatives of social welfare originations came forward to face the difficult situation with courage and determination. He stated that gesture of self-help and collective efforts proved that Kashmiris could withstand any difficult situation without the help and aid of the government. He stated that the time has come when Kashmiris should stop looking for help from the government, reject aid and so called packages and inculcate in them the spirit of self-help to utilize their collective efforts.
Before the award ceremony, a documentary film featuring the relief and rehabilitation work of Darul Khair was also screened.
