At-least 24 drugs supplied to various hospitals of Jammu and Kashmir including SK Institute of Medical Science here have been declared as sub-standard by the Government Analyst, according to a report by Central Drugs Standard Control Organization (CDSCO).

As per the report, circulated among media persons by Doctors Association Kashmir at a press conference here, the drugs declared ‘not of standard quality’ include eight manufactured locally in Jammu, seven in Himachal Pradesh, five in Uttarakhand , two in Haryana while the remaining were manufactured in Bangalore and Mumbai.

A high level team from CDSCO had visited J&K in April this year and had drawn 156 samples from hospitals, dispensaries, wholesalers and retailers in the state.

“These 24 substandard drugs are a test result of only 50 samples while the report regarding 106 samples in still awaited,” DAK President Dr Nissar-ul-Hassan told reporters here, according to KNS.

The drugs declared substandard include Dicloflam Injection IP (M/s Ethicare Labouratories Jammu), Amoxicillin and Potassium Clavulenate Inj (M/s Karnataka Antibiotics and Pharmaceuticals Bangalore), P-min10% (Minil Lab Jammu), Zepoxin Inj (M/s Neon Lab Mumbai), Traxol (GMH Organics HP), Nimeth Inj (Haryana), Biotocin Inj (EG Pharmaceuticals HP), Metonorm Inj (M/s Ethicare Labouratories Jammu), Dexamethosone Inj (M/s SGS Uttrakhand), Pheniramine Inj (M/s SGS Uttrakhand), Diclofenac Sodium Inj (M/s Visa Drugs, HP), Metonorm (M/s Ethicare Labouratories Jammu), Bolocef 250 (M/s Bio Search, Jammu), Metonorm (M/s Ethicare Labouratories Jammu), Cefataxime Sodium (M/s Vivek Pharma Jammu), Pheniramine Maleate (M/s SGS Uttrakhand), Curcef (M/s Orison Haryana), Levocetirizine (M/s Regency Uttrakhand), Cefpodoxime—Cefdom-P (M/s Roseate HP), Calcium Cabonate—Marycal 500 (M/s A K Biotec Jammu), Oflaxin—Onofbact200 (M/s Sea Pharmaceuticals UP), Nitrofuratone (M/s Martin and Harris, Uttrakhand) and Clonazepan 1 mg (M/s Beta Drugs, HP).   The samples of Amoxicillin and Potassium Clavulenate Inj and Zepoxin Inj were lifted from SKIMS while others were drawn from Directorate of Health Services Jammu, District hospital Pulwama, Zaffar Medicate Pulwama, SDH Pampore, SMGS Hospital Jammu, Medical Store Udampur, SDH Sopore, Mother and Child Care Hospital Sopore, District Hospital Baramulla, Ditrict Hospital Doda, M/s Allied Traders Pharma Sopore, M/s Wani Kishtwar, M/S Lee-Eeh Traders Srinagar Fair Price Cooperative Medical Store Pulwama and M/S Phychiatric Hospital Srinagar.

The DAK president, Dr Nissar-ul-Hassan also announced to launch door-to-door campaign against the spurious drugs and arrest of those involved in the scam.

“Even after filing of a charge-sheet against them by Crime Branch, official involved in the scam continue to be holding their positions,” he said, adding “Their mere transfer is not enough. They have to be arrested for the commission of offence committed by them.”

“More than 500 infants died in a Children Hospital here and hundreds of people also lost life in various hospitals. It’s not because of the negligence of the doctors but due to the fake and spurious drugs,” he said.

The DAK president also demanded setting up of an independent commission to probe the entire gamut of the drug scandal to expose those involved in the scam.
