SRINAGAR: Leader of Opposition in the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly, Sunil Sharma, on Sunday met Union Home Minister Amit Shah in the national capital and held detailed discussions on key issues concerning the Union Territory, including security, development and the prevailing political situation.

During the meeting, Sharma apprised the Home Minister of various concerns emerging from the ground, highlighting public expectations related to peace, development and effective governance in Jammu Kashmir.
The discussions also covered the overall security scenario and law and order situation, along with ongoing developmental initiatives and efforts to strengthen democratic processes at the grassroots level in the Union Territory.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah, according to officials, gave a patient hearing to the issues raised and reiterated the Government of India’s commitment to ensuring lasting peace, strengthening security, and accelerating development in Jammu Kashmir under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
He assured continued support from the Centre for the overall progress and welfare of the people of the Union Territory, and emphasised the importance of consolidating gains made in recent years.
Sharma, who also represents the Bharatiya Janata Party, reaffirmed his party’s commitment to peace, stability and development in Jammu and Kashmir, stating that the region has witnessed significant progress in recent years under the present leadership at the Centre.
He further said that efforts will continue to ensure that the benefits of development reach all sections of society across the Union Territory.
The meeting underscored the continued engagement between the Union government and political leadership from Jammu and Kashmir on issues of governance, security and development.
