SRINAGAR: Minister for Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs, Information Technology, Youth Services and Sports, and Science and Technology, Satish Sharma, on Sunday handed over appointment orders to newly selected Anganwadi Workers at a public outreach programme held at the historic Royal Palace in Khour, reaffirming the government’s focus on strengthening border development and welfare delivery.
Speaking on the occasion, the Minister said the government remains fully committed to the welfare of border residents, accelerated infrastructure development, employment generation and transparent governance. He stated that the development of border belts continues to be a key priority area for the administration.
The Minister said the government is sensitive to the challenges faced by people living in border areas and is committed to ensuring their safety, security and socio-economic upliftment. He assured that all genuine public demands raised by delegations would be taken up with the concerned authorities for timely redressal.
Several delegations, including social organisations, youth groups and local representatives, met the Minister during the visit and projected demands related to road connectivity, healthcare, education, employment opportunities, infrastructure development and public welfare schemes in border villages.
Highlighting the issue of compensation for families affected by cross-border shelling and conflict-related incidents, Satish Sharma said adequate and timely relief remains a priority and efforts will continue to ensure that no affected family is left without support.
Recalling the administration’s response during recent hostilities along the Line of Control and border areas, he said around 70,000 people were safely evacuated from vulnerable locations through coordinated efforts of multiple departments, with the Jammu and Kashmir Road Transport Corporation playing a key role in transportation support.
He said the evacuation exercise reflected the government’s preparedness and commitment to protecting civilian lives during emergencies.
Describing Anganwadi Workers as a crucial pillar of grassroots welfare delivery, the Minister said they play an important role in maternal and child health, nutrition, early childhood education and community outreach programmes. He urged the newly appointed workers to serve with dedication and sincerity.
Reviewing departmental functioning, Satish Sharma directed officers to remain accessible to the public and ensure timely redressal of grievances. He emphasised that governance must remain people-centric, transparent and accountable.
He also instructed officials to expedite pending development works and warned that negligence, delays and lack of accountability in public service delivery would not be tolerated.
Outlining the development roadmap for Khour and adjoining areas, the Minister said several projects are in the pipeline aimed at improving road connectivity, strengthening infrastructure, expanding digital services, and enhancing educational and sports facilities, along with creating employment opportunities for youth.
He further said technology-driven governance and scientific planning are central to improving service delivery and accelerating development across the region.
Calling for active public participation, Satish Sharma said meaningful progress in Jammu and Kashmir can only be achieved through cooperation between the government and the people. He urged citizens to remain engaged with the administration and contribute towards the region’s development goals.
A large number of residents, public representatives, youth, women, social activists and officials were present on the occasion.
