SRINAGAR: In a large-scale crackdown after the recent militant attack in Kulgam, Jammu and Kashmir Police have detained over 500 Over Ground Workers (OGWs), suspects, terror associates, and individuals with past links to militant activities during overnight raids across the Kashmir valley.
The detentions follow Monday’s attack in the Behibagh area of Kulgam, where militants fired at three civilians from point-blank range, critically injuring them. Among the victims, Manzoor Ahmad Wagay, a former Territorial Army soldier, succumbed to his injuries while undergoing treatment at a hospital. His wife, Aaina Akhtar (32), and a minor girl, Sania Hameed (13), sustained leg injuries and are reported to be stable.
A senior police officer said that authorities have launched a large-scale operation to identify and apprehend individuals linked to terrorist networks. “More than 500 suspects have been detained for questioning to trace the perpetrators and prevent further attacks,” he said.
He added that law enforcement agencies remain committed to bringing those responsible to justice and ensuring the security of residents and visitors in Kashmir.
Officials confirmed that investigations into the Kulgam attack are ongoing, with detainees being questioned for possible involvement in terror-related activities. (KDC)
