SRINAGAR: The Jammu and Kashmir government informed the Legislative Assembly that 52 non-locals have been issued domicile certificates in Beerwah, Budgam, on the grounds of marriage.
In a written reply to a question posed by MLA Beerwah, Dr Muhammad Shafi Wani, Minister for Social Welfare Sakina Masood (Ittoo) informed the House that 52 non-locals had been granted domicile certificates in Beerwah.
When asked about the basis for issuing these certificates, the minister said that they were granted on marriage grounds. She said no non-local domicile certificates were issued in the neighbouring tehsils of Narbal and Magam.
She stated that Narbal tehsil issued 18,921 domicile certificates, while Magam tehsil recorded 26,277. Beerwah tehsil granted the highest number, with a total of 62,343 domicile certificates.
Meanwhile, Wani raised concerns about the recipients of these certificates, questioning whether they included women from outside who married within the region. He added that he has sought additional information from the government and is awaiting a response.
