SRINAGAR: Sixty-two key posts of Block Development Officers (BDOs) remain vacant across Kashmir, significantly impacting the Rural Development Department (RDD).
According to documents, Kupwara district is the most affected, with 17 out of 25 BDO positions unfilled. In contrast, Srinagar district has no vacancies.
Other districts facing notable shortages include Anantnag and Bandipora, each with seven vacant posts, and Baramulla, where 11 administrative positions are unfilled. Budgam has six vacant positions, while Pulwama and Kulgam each have four. Shopian has five vacant posts, and Ganderbal reports one unfilled BDO position.
Minister for Agriculture Production and Rural Development & Panchayati Raj Departments, Javed Ahmad Dar said that efforts to address the vacancies are underway.
“We are actively working on the matter, and the issue of vacant BDO posts will be resolved within the next 10-15 days,” the minister said.
The unavailability of BDOs in several districts has raised concerns about delays in developmental activities and administrative inefficiencies in rural areas.
