In-charge of Tulip Garden, Javid Masood, while sharing details said, “A massive footfall of 44,651 visitors was recorded on Tuesday (the second day of Eid-ul-Fitr), while 30,000 to 35,000 people visited the garden on Monday (the first day of Eid-ul-Fitr).”

Masood said that in the past seven days since the garden was formally inaugurated by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on March 26, it has recorded a total footfall of 1,56,000 visitors.

“With the rush increasing each day, we expect to surpass last year’s record,” he said, adding, “Everything is running smoothly as visitors are cooperative and following the rules.”

He said  that the introduction of e-ticketing has been beneficial, significantly reducing the rush outside the garden for ticket collection.

He further mentioned that the garden will remain open as long as the tulips are in bloom. “If the weather remains favourable, the garden could stay open for a month,” he said.

With 1.7 million tulip bulbs, the garden was opened to the public on March 26.

The Indira Gandhi Memorial Tulip Garden features two additional tulip varieties imported from the Netherlands this year. A team of 100 gardeners and casual labourers worked extensively to prepare the garden for visitors.

On the inaugural day (March 26), the garden saw an overwhelming response, recording an unprecedented footfall of 17,259 visitors.

Last year, the garden welcomed 4.5 lakh visitors, setting a new record.

In 2023, the Tulip Garden in Srinagar earned a spot in the World Book of Records (London) as Asia’s largest.

In 2024, the garden has seen an extraordinary surge in tourism, with 4.45 lakh visitors, including approximately 2,000 foreign tourists, flocking to witness its vibrant blooms. (KNO)
