Jammu and Kashmir Government in March 2016 had a detailed and formally discussed with Government of India (GoI) on transfer of power projects to state.
The lower house of the J&K Legislature was on Saturday informed that deputy CM and FinMin had met Union Power Minister on March 16 and “formally impressed” for transfer of power projects handled by NHPC in J&K to state.
“Transfer of power projects is an important part of the developmental agenda of BJP-PDP coalition government… the state will work with the Union Government to, inter alia, explore modalities for transfer of Dulhasti and Uri hydro power projects to J&K as suggested by the Rangarajan Committee Report and the Round Table reports,” a written reply to Communist lawmaker, M Y Tarigami, by power minister said.
More so, the government said that it has engaged a consultant to quantify the losses suffered by J&K on account of Indus Water Treaty (IWT). It further informed that JKSPDC is processing the cost of J&K power projects managed by NHPC.
