SRINAGAR: The Food Safety Department has seized 19 quintals of wheat flour from government sale centres in Ganderbal following public complaints alleging the distribution of substandard atta through the outlets.
Officials said food safety teams collected samples of the flour during the inspection drive and sent them to a laboratory for analysis to determine whether the product meets the prescribed quality standards.
The enforcement action was launched after residents raised concerns over the quality of atta being supplied through government sale centres in the district.
Authorities said further action will be taken once the laboratory test reports are received. They added that any necessary legal or regulatory measures would be initiated if the samples are found to be non-compliant with food safety standards.
The department said the drive is part of its efforts to ensure the quality and safety of food items supplied to consumers through government distribution channels.
