SRINAGAR: The District Magistrate of Baramulla, Minga Sherpa (IAS), on Monday ordered a complete ban on drone flying across the district till October 31, 2025, citing security concerns and the apprehension of drones being used for smuggling or activities against security forces and vital installations during the festive season.
The order was passed following a request from HQ 19 Infantry Division, which had sought restrictions on drone operations in view of intelligence inputs indicating potential misuse.
According to the order, the Senior Superintendent of Police Baramulla and the Senior Superintendent of Police Sopore also conveyed their apprehensions about drone misuse and recommended restrictions on all non-essential drone or UAV operations as a precautionary measure to ensure public safety.
“In exercise of the powers vested in me under Section 163 of the BNSS, I do hereby prohibit drone flying by any individual, event host or organisation in District Baramulla forthwith, till 31-10-2025,” the District Magistrate stated in the order.
However, the use of drones by security forces, CAPF units, or government departments for official purposes has been exempted, provided prior intimation is given to the District Administration, Police, and HQ 19 Infantry Division.
The District Magistrate directed all Executive Magistrates and the District Police to implement the order in letter and spirit and to take legal action against violators in accordance with law.
