SRINAGAR: The Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of Crime Branch Kashmir (CBK) has filed a chargesheet against three individuals for their alleged involvement in a fake Railway recruitment scam, officials said on Friday.
The chargesheet in FIR No. 08/2025 has been submitted before the Court of Judicial Magistrate 1st Class, Beerwah, Budgam, under Sections 420, 468, 471 and 120-B of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
The accused have been identified as Abdul Hamid Sheikh, son of Ghulam Mohi-ud-Din Sheikh of Chewdara, Beerwah; Adil Shah, son of Abdul Rashid Shah of Sonwar, Srinagar A/P Zewan; and Mufti Ghulam Hassan Kumar, son of Mohammad Ashoor Kumar of Hib-Dangerpora, Sopore A/P Rutsuna, Beerwah, Budgam.
The case came to light after a written complaint from Mufti Ghulam Hassan Kumar, who alleged that Abdul Hamid Sheikh and Adil Shah had provided him with fake appointment letters purportedly issued by the Railway Recruitment Board, New Delhi. The letters contained forged seals and signatures of the DGM, Northern Railway, Paharganj, New Delhi, the officials said.
Following the complaint, EOW Kashmir initiated a detailed investigation. Preliminary findings revealed that the accused had conspired to defraud individuals by promising government jobs in exchange for substantial sums of money. Verification confirmed the appointment letters were forged.
During the investigation, it emerged that the complainant, Mufti Ghulam Hassan Kumar, was also actively involved in the scam. Evidence indicated that he had collected money from other victims under the pretext of providing employment and had issued fake job orders, collaborating with the other accused.
Based on the investigation, the final report under Section 173 of the Cr.PC has been presented before the court for judicial proceedings.
The EOW Kashmir reaffirmed its commitment to combating economic offences and protecting citizens from fraudulent recruitment schemes.
