A day after the army killed two youth at Chattergam area of Budgam, curfew like restrictions were imposed in various areas of Kashmir valley on Tuesday to foil any protest demonstrations.

The army personnel of 53 Rashtriya Rifles while trying to stop a vehicle during a checking at the main market in Chattergam last evening had shot at the car after it allegedly didn’t stop. In the incident, four persons who were travelling in the car sustained critical bullet injuries and two died before reaching hospital. “All the injured were taken to army’s 92 base hospital here in Srinagar for treatment.” But Faizal Mohammad (26) and Mehraj-ud-Din Dar (27) residents of Nowgam were declared brought dead. While the two injured Shakir Ahmad Bhat (30) and Zahid Ahmad Naqash (25) of Nowgam have been operated by the doctors at the army hospital.

As the news reached to the slain youths’ home town, people took to streets while protesting against the army action. They reportedly also hurled stones towards forces on Monday with the clashes in the area mounting till late Monday evening.

On Tuesday, authorities imposed curfew like restrictions in the area where protest demonstrations along with the stone pelting incidents were witnessed.  Paramilitary troops were deployed in the area with the severe restrictions in place to foil any attempt of protest demonstrations by the people.

Reports also informed that the government imposed curfew in the areas falling under police station Pantha Chowk.

Also the district authorities had placed severe restrictions on Tuesday in various areas of the summer capital including Batmaloo, Maisuma, MR Gunj, Nowhatta, Safa Kadal and other areas falling under their vicinity. The locals in these areas told KNS that they were not allowed to move out of their homes since morning with the restrictions forcing the shopkeepers to spend whole day without opening their shops.
