Ashura- the 10th of Muharram was observed across Kashmir on Tuesday with sanctity with the mourners taking out processions from various areas while remembering the immense sacrifices rendered by Prophet’s (SAW) grandson and his companions at the battle of Karballa.
According to the KNS correspondent, the state authorities put curbs upon the civilian movement in various areas on Tuesday. 10th of Muharram or the day of Ashura is observed across the world as a symbol of sacrifice and mourning recalling the martyrdom of Hazrat Imam Hussain (AS), the grandson of Prophet Muhammad (SAW), in the battle of Karbala on the 10th of Muharram, over 1353 years ago.
Reports informed KNS that while the mourning processions were taken put from various areas including Budgam and Srinagar, roads leading to Lal Chowk were sealed by the forces with the additional forces being deployed to thwart any protest demonstrations.
The district administration had already informed people that restrictions in various city parts would be imposed in view of the 10th Muharram processions.
On Tuesday, since morning, forces had placed blockades and concertina wires in various areas of the Srinagar city with the additional deployment of forces made at Maisuma, Kothibagh, Kralkhud, MR Gunj, Safa Kadal and other areas.
The protesters stated that the traditional route for the Ashura procession would start from Guru Bazar and Shaheed Gunj areas of the old city and would pass through Maulana Azad Road and Residency Road, Dalgate to end at Alamgari Bazar, Zadibal.
However, since last 24 years, the state government has placed restriction over this route of the Muharram processions, causing protest demonstrations at large by the people for the restoration of the earlier traditional routes.
Meanwhile, on Tuesday, Ashura procession was taken out from various areas of Kashmir valley. In Zadibal, thousands of mourners took part in the procession with the people remembering the martyrs of Karballa with tearful eyes. Men, women and children while taking part in the procession recited nohas , highlighting the role of Imam Hussain (AS) in the battle of Karballa against Yazid Ibn Mouwiya. The battle of Karballa is also known in the world as the battle for truth and Justice.
Reports informed that the Ashura processions were led by the religious organization Anjuman-e- Sharei Shian in Central Kashmir’s Budgam and Srinagar. One procession was taken out by religious and separatist leader Aga Syed Hassan Al Safvi Al Mouswi from Gulshan Bagh to the shrine of the revered saint Hazrat Sham-ud-din Iraqi. Also similar processions were led by Anjuman-e- Sharei Shian at Mirgund wherein the processions merged at the central Imam Bada and Shariet Qad.
While addressing the people at Zadibal, Aga Syed Hassan remarked that the battle of Karballa teaches humanity the real human values and patience at the most turbulent times. He said that it is necessary to understand Karbala for understanding Islam. Aga Syed Hassan added that Islam teaches unity and brotherhood while prioritizing upholding of the human values. He said that rights of the non-Muslims can never be undermined in the Islamic system of Justice and that the Prophet (SAW) was mercy for the whole humanity and not for the Muslims alone.
Similar processions were also taken out from scores of areas of Budgam and Kargil.
