SRINAGAR: A Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) personnel allegedly shot himself in the head with his service rifle at Jammu Airport on Tuesday, leaving him critically injured, officials said.
The incident took place outside the airport’s exit gate, where the jawan, identified as Sunil Jasrotia, was deployed on security duty, they said.
According to preliminary information, Jasrotia, a resident of Kathua district, allegedly used his service weapon to shoot himself. The gunshot triggered panic among people at the airport and prompted his colleagues to rush to the spot.
The CISF personnel found Jasrotia lying in a pool of blood and immediately shifted him to Government Medical College (GMC) hospital for treatment, officials said.
His condition was reported to be critical.
The circumstances that allegedly led the jawan to take the extreme step were not immediately known.
