SRINAGAR: Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Monday inaugurated the Free Breast Cancer Screening Seva programme at the Civil Secretariat in Srinagar, a major healthcare initiative aimed at promoting early detection and awareness of breast cancer among women across the district.
Launched under the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programme of the Airports Authority of India (AAI) in collaboration with India Turns Pink (ITP), the initiative will provide free breast cancer screening services at the doorstep of women in selected villages of Srinagar district.
The programme is expected to cover ten villages and benefit around 10,000 women through free screening, awareness campaigns and counselling services, with a focus on encouraging early diagnosis and timely medical intervention.
Addressing the gathering, the Chief Minister lauded the Airports Authority of India and the implementing organisation for undertaking a significant public health initiative centred on women’s well-being. He emphasised that early detection and prompt treatment are critical in reducing the burden of breast cancer and improving survival rates.
The initiative also aims to increase awareness about breast cancer, encourage regular health check-ups and strengthen preventive healthcare practices among women.
Health and Medical Education Minister Sakina Itoo and Advisor to the Chief Minister Nasir Aslam Wani were present on the occasion.
Founder President of India Turns Pink, PA Anandakumar, representatives of the organisation and senior officials also attended the event.
