SRINAGAR: Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Saturday said that employees terminated over alleged militant links should be given a chance to present their case, and appropriate action should be taken if they fail to prove their innocence.

Speaking to reporters, Omar Abdullah, stated that everyone is presumed innocent until proven guilty according to the law of the land.

“If there is evidence against them (the terminated employees) and they are given a chance to justify themselves but fail, then it is acceptable,” he said while reacting to the recent termination of three government employees in Jammu and Kashmir.

He emphasised that if the decision was taken without hearing their side, it would violate the principle of presumed innocence until proven guilty.

When asked about the Waqf Amendment Bill, he claimed it was aimed at Muslims and that there was no other reason behind its introduction. (KNO)
