After J&K government skipping the 31st March ultimatum for release of payment, thousands of contractors from all over Kashmir Tuesday locked down the offices of four chief engineers in Srinagar to press for release of their payment.

The aggrieved contractors claim that they had expected to receive their payments before 30 December 2015. “However, it’s been more than three months and we are still waiting for our payments,” Gh Jeelani Purza, chairperson J&K Contractors Coordination Committee told Kashmir Life.

“The government owes us Rs 1100 Crore,” he claimed.

The employees stationed at Chief Engineers offices of PHE, R&B Irrigation & Flood Control and PMGSY in Srinagar left their work as all the offices were locked down by the protesting contractors.

The contractors alleged that the funds allocated for Kashmir were diverted to Jammu and most of the Jammu contractors have already received their payment.
