SRINAGAR: The Jammu and Kashmir Board of Professional Entrance Examination (BOPEE) is preparing to start counselling for NEET candidates.
Counselling is expected to commence within the next fortnight, after which colleges will be allocated according to the candidates’ preferences.
Following the Supreme Court’s approval for NEET qualifiers, BOPEE will handle the college allocation process. The board will issue a notification outlining the counselling dates, and successful NEET candidates will be required to submit their preferences before colleges are assigned.
A meeting of BOPEE officials is anticipated on Friday to finalise the dates and issue the notification.
“Due to delays caused by higher-level issues, counselling has been postponed. Now that the situation is resolved, we expect to begin counselling soon. The process includes issuing notifications and allowing candidates time to gather information. Everything must be properly organised to give candidates ample time to complete all formalities,” Minu Mahajan, Chairperson of JK BOPEE, told local news agency KNO.
She indicated that formal counselling is expected to start within a fortnight.
Despite an increase in the number of MBBS seats in Jammu and Kashmir in recent years, candidates with higher merit still prefer colleges such as GMC Srinagar, GMC Jammu, and SKIMS Srinagar, while those with lower merit are assigned to newer colleges.
