Authorities have slapped draconian Public Safety Act on a 75-year-old man and his son in Hajin Sonawari area of North Kashmir’s Bandipora district.

The Dar family from Hajin area told news agency CNS that septuagenarian Ali Muhammad Dar and his son Showkat Ahmed were picked up by police during a nocturnal raid for their alleged involvement in anti-India protests.

“After keeping father-son duo in police lock up for a week, they were booked under Public Safety Act and shifted to Kotbalwal Jail,” the family members said.

They said that Ali Muhammad is suffering from various ailments and he requires medicines on daily basis.

“In the garb of so-called national security the incumbent callous government has been trampling human rights here in Kashmir,” they said. “It is irony that government is scared of old and feeble persons like Ali Muhammad Dar,” they added.

Four Persons Including Two Brothers Arrested In Nocturnal Raid

During a nocturnal raid four persons including two brothers of a family were arrested in Mehjoor Nagar area of Srinagar city while police used tear-smoke shells to stop people from resisting these arrests.

They (Police) are making mockery of democracy trampling the rights of an individual,” locals of Mehjoor Nagar said.

They identified the arrested youth as Faisal Rashid, Aqib Rashid, Javaid Ahmed and Ashiq Ahmed.

During a nocturnal raid, two youth were also picked up by government forces from New Theed Harwan area of capital city Srinagar.
