Hurriyat patriarch Syed Ali Geelani has been invited by Organization of Islamic Countries (OIC) to attend its meeting on Kashmir in the United States later this month.
OIC is an amalgam of 54 Muslims countries which have established a group of its members on the Jammu and Kashmir. The group is referred as OIC Contact Group on J&K.
In a letter addressed to Geelani, Chairman All Parties Hurriyat Conference, Director General of OIC Cabinet said that the foreign ministers of the OIC members and the OIC Contact Group on J&K are meeting during the 71th session of United Nations General Assembly.
The session will be held at UN headquarters in New York from 19-22 September.
“In the regard,” Dr Yousuf Al Othmaan wrote, “I have the pleasure to invite you to attend the above mentioned meetings in New York, as invitee.”
Dr Othmaan is Director General of OIC Cabinet.
Geelani is serving house detention since 2010. He has been allowed out of his Hyderpora home-cum-office only when he flies to New Delhi for treatment.
