According to a public circular issued by the DCI, a statutory body under the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, the decision follows complaints from dental colleges in Rajasthan, Haryana and Uttar Pradesh regarding the non-attendance of PG students.

The issue was examined by the DCI’s Grievance Sub-Committee during its meeting held on November 24, 2025. After deliberations, the committee recommended strict implementation of Regulation 18(a)(i) of the Master of Dental Surgery Course Regulations, 2017, which mandates at least 80 per cent attendance.

The circular stated that the recommendation was subsequently approved by the Executive Committee of the DCI through circulation and has now been issued for compliance.

“All universities and dental colleges are directed to ensure a minimum of 80 per cent biometric attendance of PG students before permitting them to appear in examinations,” the council said.
