It is his first trip to the union territory since Operation Sindoor was launched.

According to defence sources, Singh will meet senior Army officers and heads of security agencies to assess the prevailing security environment, particularly in the backdrop of recent Indo-Pak border tensions and renewed infiltration attempts along the Line of Control (LoC).

During the visit, Singh is expected to chair high-level meetings with top commanders of the Northern Command, senior officials from the Jammu and Kashmir administration, and intelligence agencies. Discussions are likely to focus on border security, counter-militancy operations in South and North Kashmir, and infrastructure development in forward areas.

The Defence Minister will also address troops deployed in high-altitude and sensitive zones, acknowledging their service and boosting morale.

“This visit underscores the Centre’s commitment to national security and the welfare of armed forces. The Defence Minister’s interaction with troops sends a message of solidarity and recognition,” an official told KNT.

Singh’s visit comes ahead of the upcoming Amarnath Yatra and ongoing efforts to stabilise internal security across the Valley. Additional reviews may be conducted to improve coordination between security forces and the local administration.

Officials said the Minister may also review progress on strategic projects, including the construction of bunkers and roads in border areas that are critical for both civilian and defence movement.

This is Singh’s first visit to Kashmir since tensions flared along the LoC. (KNT)
