Schools Open in Select Jammu Zones, Those Near LoC Still Shut

SRINAGAR: Schools in five border districts of the Jammu region reopened on Thursday after an eight-day closure due to Indo-Pak tensions, offering some relief to students, teachers, and parents. However, institutions close to the Line of Control (LoC) and the International Border remain shut as a safety measure.

Officials said schools resumed in selected zones of Jammu, Samba, Kathua, Rajouri, and Poonch following local security assessments. The reopening included peace-themed assemblies and interactions among students.

“We were confined indoors during the shelling. Returning to school feels like a return to life,” said Rita Khera, a student from Jammu.

Teachers noted that offline classes allow for better interaction. “It’s a relief to be back. Online cannot match the connection we have in physical classrooms,” said teacher Ragni Datta.

The Directorate of School Education issued zone-wise reopening orders, asking school heads and Zonal Education Officers to implement safety protocols and coordinate with local authorities.

Schools had been closed as a precaution during recent cross-border hostilities. (KNT)
