SRINAGAR: Doctors at Government Medical College (GMC) in South Kashmir’s Anantnag removed a live worm from the nostril of a nine-year-old boy from Banihal.

ENT resident Dr Krishanjeet Singh said the child had been losing weight and had a loss of appetite over several days. His parents observed a worm emerging from his nose at intervals, prompting them to take him to the hospital for examination.

After an initial examination by Dr Krishanjeet, it was suspected that a large, snake-like worm was lodged inside the boy’s nose. Dr Singh, along with HOD ENT Dr Aamir, decided to use suction to remove the worm. The procedure successfully extruded a worm approximately 9 to 10 cm long.

Dr Singh said that had the worm remained in the nasal passage, it could have led to infections and other health complications. “The worm has been sent to a laboratory for further analysis to confirm its exact nature,” he said.

The child is now stable and has been discharged.
