The Joint Director of Elementary Education stated in a communiqué that remedial teaching had already been initiated in schools with unsatisfactory performance and would continue uninterrupted throughout the summer break.

The department noted that sustained academic support is essential to bridge learning gaps and ensure students are adequately prepared for the upcoming biannual examinations.

“In view of this, and in the best interest of students, it is ordered that remedial classes shall continue during summer vacation as per the earlier directive for the identified schools,” the communiqué read.

The directorate added that the classes will be held during early morning hours from 8:00 a.m. to provide a conducive learning environment and protect students from the extreme heat of the day.

The objective of the remedial teaching programme is to strengthen students’ basic concepts, offer individual attention, clarify doubts, and prepare them for examinations. Subject-specific remedial plans prepared by teachers must be followed strictly.

Heads of institutions have been instructed to focus remedial teaching on identified weak areas and monitor progress daily, maintaining written records. Schools must display detailed remedial schedules on their notice boards for the benefit of students, parents, and monitoring officials.

Teachers engaged in remedial classes are expected to use interactive and student-friendly methods, regularly assess student progress, and maintain detailed records of attendance, lesson plans, topics covered, and student evaluations.

Parents are to be sensitised and encouraged to ensure regular attendance of their children in these sessions.

Cluster Heads have been tasked with monitoring the quality and conduct of remedial classes through regular school visits. Daily monitoring reports, with photographs and performance updates, are to be submitted to Cluster Heads and respective DIETs without fail.

The DIETs are to oversee the implementation of the programme and submit weekly reports to SCERT.

DSEK warned that any non-compliance or negligence in conducting remedial teaching will be taken seriously and will invite strict disciplinary action.

Chief Education Officers have been directed to implement the order in full, ensuring academic support for students preparing for the supplementary JKBOSE examinations. (KNO)
