Hurriyat (g) Chairperson Syed Ali Geelani Thursday condemned the seizure of sacrificial animals allegedly by police in Rajouri district in Jammu region.

While expressing his deep concern and anguish over the reports that the police have seized many sacrificial animals in the Rajouri district and had arrested many Muslims in this regard.

He alleged that BJP which was controlling the entire Jammu region and was intentionally fuelling the communal tension in the area.

“Seizing of sacrificial animals is an intolerable action and it can result in a very sharp reaction. RSS and its allied parties can’t dictate terms to the Muslims that which animal should they sacrifice and which not. It is our religious obligation and we can’t tolerate anybody’s interference into that,” Geelani said in a statement issued to KNS.

He, however, said that the aim of a Muslim is to attain benevolence of Almighty Allah by this sacrifice so they will perform this obligation according to the true spirit of Islam.

While asking people not to make and share the videos of the slaughtering of the sacrificial animals, Geelani said that our beloved Prophet Muhammad (SAW) had prohibited the slaughtering of one animal in front of another animal.

“Muslims should sacrifice cow in every way but should not do this for just display,” he said.

While extending his heartfelt greetings of Eid-ul-Azha to the whole Muslim Ummah and Millat-i-Islami of Jammu & Kashmir in particular, Geelani appealed people to celebrate this Eid with austerity, simplicity and according to the Islamic principles.

While appealing for helping the orphans, widows and destitute on the Eid. “We are passing through a very dangerous situation due to the forced military occupation of India so we should not indulge in over-spending on the Eid days.”
