SRINAGAR: The Jammu and Kashmir Government has approved heritage conservation projects worth Rs 16.36 crore for the restoration of the historic Jamia Masjid Sharief in Shopian and the Sarvadhar Chaumanda Mata Mandir in Ramban, aiming to preserve two of the Union Territory’s important religious and architectural landmarks.
According to an official statement issued on Monday, the government, led by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, has sanctioned Rs 6.05 crore for the revival and restoration of the historic Jamia Masjid Sharief in Shopian. The restoration will be carried out on heritage lines, with the focus on preserving the mosque’s original architectural character while protecting its cultural and historical significance.
The government said the project is intended to ensure the conservation of the centuries-old mosque for future generations without compromising its heritage value.
In a separate decision, the government approved Rs 10.31 crore for the restoration of the Sarvadhar Chaumanda Mata Mandir in Ramban. The project aims to conserve the temple’s historic structure, strengthen its architectural integrity and preserve its religious and cultural importance.
Officials said the two projects reflect the government’s commitment to safeguarding Jammu and Kashmir’s diverse religious, cultural and architectural heritage through scientifically planned conservation and restoration works.
