SRINAGAR: The Jammu and Kashmir government has sought Rs 10.44 crore from the Finance Department to roll out the Labour Codes in a mission mode, with the proposed plan focusing on strengthening administrative capacity, expanding grassroots outreach and upgrading digital infrastructure.
The proposal envisages setting up a State Project Management Unit (SPMU) to steer the implementation process, besides deploying Shram Sahayiks at the block level to improve access to labour-related services and facilitate the execution of welfare schemes.
Officials said the plan also includes strengthening the Labour Department’s IT infrastructure and integrating it with national labour portals to ensure seamless data sharing, online service delivery and better monitoring of labour welfare initiatives.
Alongside institutional reforms, the proposal lays emphasis on large-scale awareness campaigns to familiarise workers, employers and other stakeholders with the provisions of the Labour Codes. Capacity-building programmes for departmental staff also form part of the roadmap aimed at ensuring effective implementation.
The government believes the proposed investment will create the institutional and technological framework required for implementing the Labour Codes across Jammu and Kashmir, while improving governance, transparency and delivery of labour welfare services.
