Congress Sunday asked the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) led J&K coalition government to stop “playing politics” on Handwara Killings and demanded punishment to guilty, as that will only be a great justice to the deceased persons and their families.

Accusing State Government for being “insensitive” to the safety of people, Congress asked it to explain its “failure to people, as to why the situation was allowed to go out of control” resulting into loss of many precious lives, which is very unfortunate and highly condemnable.

Blaming the government for the volatile situation in the backdrop of the Handwara incidents, the J&K unit of Congress in a statement issued this evening said, “PDP led government has miserably failed to contain the situation. Many precious lives were lost and the party (Congress) cannot remain as a mute spectator to such type unfortunate incidents and innocent killings. The party will continue to fight against the barbarism, killings and expose the state government for its failure on account of ensuing safety of common people.”

Asking PDP-BJP coalition government to explain to the people as to why the situation was not brought under control, immediately, in Handwara, Congress said, “had there been a proper mechanism to deal with the protestors, the loss of precious lives could have been avoided.”

Referring to the statement of mother of Handwara girl, Congress leaders said, “it should work as an eye opener for the state government and emphasized the need for early completion of probe, so that the culprits, whosoever may be, brought to the book and punished, as per law.”
