The ill-fated helicopter was reportedly carrying senior technical staff from the plant, which plays a crucial role in producing and maintaining military equipment used by Russian forces. The crash represents a significant blow to Moscow’s defence production capabilities, as the victims were among the company’s most experienced engineers.
Local authorities said rescue teams reached the crash site shortly after the incident, but all five occupants were found dead. The cause of the crash is under investigation, though preliminary reports suggest possible technical failure.
The Kizlyar Electromechanical Plant, located in southern Russia, manufactures a range of defence systems, including communications and electronic warfare equipment. Russian officials have yet to release the names of the victims, but the Defence Ministry has expressed condolences to their families.
An official inquiry has been launched to determine the circumstances leading to the crash.
