SRINAGAR: In a joint operation, Handwara police and the National Investigation Agency (NIA) arrested Muneer Ahmad Banday, a proclaimed offender with a bounty of Rs 5 lakh, in Handwara, Jammu and Kashmir.
According to an official police release, Banday, a resident of Banday Mohalla in Handwara, had been on the run since June 2020. He was wanted in connection with Case No. 03/2020 under various sections of the NDPS Act, UAPA, and the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
Police revealed that Banday was involved in a multi-million drug smuggling operation, which had serious implications for funding illegal activities. His arrest is seen as a major success for Handwara police and security agencies in the fight against organized crime and narco-terrorism.
The police release further emphasized that this operation demonstrates the commitment of the police and NIA to dismantling criminal networks and bringing offenders to justice.
Further investigation into the case is ongoing.
Earlier, a joint operation by the Indian Army and Jammu Kashmir Police was launched in the Margi area of Lolab, Kupwara, which led to a firefight after contact was established with militants.
