At the sidelines of the 31st Session of the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC) in Geneva, All Parties Hurriyat Conference (APHC-m) Saturday screened the documentary film “Children in Conflict Torn Kashmir” produced by APHC’s Human Rights Wing, an APHC spokesperson said in a statement.
The documentary film, which highlights the “extraordinary” conditions in which the children are living in conflict zone of Jammu Kashmir and the problems they face, was first released by APHC (m) Chairperson, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and screened before the audience at the APHC headquarters at Rajbagh on March 3, 2016.
On the occasion, Mirwaiz had announced that the APHC would screen the documentary film at the 31st Session of the UNHRC in Geneva so that the international community is informed about the situation of human rights violations in Kashmir and how the political uncertainty in Jammu Kashmir was affecting physically, mentally and socially Kashmiri children, both male and female.
“At the screening of the documentary film in Geneva, the APHC Azad Kashmir Chapter Convener Mir Tahir Masood, Faiz Naqshbandi and several other Hurriyat leaders were present,” the spokesperson informed.
During the function held at the screening of the documentary, the APHC stressed upon the United Nations and several other human rights bodies that human rights violations were continuing in Jammu Kashmir and one of the reasons for it was keeping Kashmir issue on the backburner and said that these “violations” would not stop until the issue was resolved as per the wishes and aspirations of Kashmiris.
The conglomerate said until an amicable solution for resolving Kashmir issue was found, Kashmiri children, youth, elderly people and women would continue to suffer from the situation arising from human rights violations.
The audience watched the documentary with attention and appreciated the effort.
On the occasion, the APHC appealed the UNHRC and other human rights bodies to take note of the human rights violations being committed in Kashmir and urged them to send their representatives to take stock of the human rights situation in the state and use their influence upon the Government of India to stop aggression against Kashmiris.
At the conclusion of the event, APHC distributed DVD copies of the documentary film among the audience which included delegates, diplomats, and other representatives of various human rights organizations and media persons.
