More 8000 MW of hydro power will be added in the state in the 12th/13th plan period which include projects being taken up in private sector in the IPP mode. While the  work on 450 MW BHEP-II is in progress, two projects namely 9 MW Hanu and 9 MW Dah have been allotted and  decks have already been cleared for allotment of 37.5 MW Parnai and 5 IPP projects.

The information was revealed by Managing Director, JKSPDC Basharat Ahmad Dhar in the backdrop of Hydel Policy 2011. During an interactive session, MD encouraged for the active participation of local entrepreneurs in development of hydroelectric projects in the state.

While elaborating on the contours of Hydel policy 2011, Dhar emphasized the commitment of both the State Government as well as the Corporation to encourage participation of local entrepreneurs in the sector and requested them to come forward and participate wholeheartedly in the bidding process already underway for about 13 Projects, other projects being advertised in future  and take advantage of the incentives available to them under the policy like Commitment of State to buy power, exemption from water usage charges for first 10 years, exemption of entry tax.
