SRINAGAR: Authorities in Baramulla have issued a weather advisory warning of two back to back Western Disturbances likely to affect Jammu and Kashmir later this week, bringing widespread rainfall and snowfall across the Valley.
According to the advisory issued by the India Meteorological Department, an intense spell is expected between January 22 and January 24, followed by another moderate disturbance from the night of January 26 till the forenoon of January 28.
The advisory states that widespread light to moderate rain and snowfall is likely across Kashmir, with heavy precipitation anticipated at several places, particularly on January 23 and January 27.
In view of the forecast, the District Administration Baramulla has urged residents, especially those living in vulnerable and higher altitude areas, to avoid venturing near slopes and elevated zones until weather conditions improve.
All line departments, including Revenue, Health, Police, SDRF, Mechanical Engineering Department, Public Health Engineering, R and B, PMGSY and Kashmir Power Distribution Corporation Limited, have been directed to remain on alert and ensure deployment of men and machinery at designated locations during the advisory period.
The administration said emergency control rooms will remain operational and people can contact District Emergency Operation Centre Baramulla, ERSS Srinagar and Police Control Room Baramulla in case of any contingency.
Officials described the advisory as a precautionary measure aimed at minimising risk in view of expected snowfall and rain related disruptions.
