SRINAGAR: India has entered into bilateral agreements with 27 countries and signed Memoranda of Understanding with 19 others to strengthen international cooperation against the illicit trafficking of narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances, the Lok Sabha was informed on Tuesday.
In a written reply to a question, Minister of State for Home Affairs Nityanand Rai said the government is intensifying efforts at the international level to combat drug trafficking and related organised crime.
He said the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) works in close coordination with several multilateral and regional organisations, including BRICS, ASEAN, BIMSTEC and the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO), to facilitate information sharing and intelligence exchange aimed at tackling transnational drug trafficking networks.
The Minister added that these collaborative mechanisms are key to strengthening enforcement, disrupting supply chains and enhancing India’s capacity to respond to cross-border narcotics smuggling.
