India’s water is for India, says PM Modi

SRINAGAR: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday made an indirect reference to the Indus Water Treaty while speaking at the India@2047 Summit organised by ABP News, stating that India’s water would now “serve India,” amid suspension of the long-standing agreement with Pakistan.

“There is a lot of discussion going on in the media about water,” the Prime Minister said, appearing to refer indirectly to recent debates surrounding the treaty. Without explicitly naming the Indus Water Treaty, Modi asserted, “India’s water served other countries. Now it will flow in favour of India, stop in favour of India and will serve India.”

The treaty allocates the use of six rivers in the Indus basin between India and Pakistan.
Modi also highlighted the BJP-led government’s achievements in the past decade, particularly in water resource management, infrastructure, and technological advancement.

He pointed to various government schemes initiated since 2014, claiming that these have significantly improved access to water and enhanced national development.
