SRINAGAR: Jammu city experienced an unusually cold day on Wednesday, with the maximum temperature dropping to 7.4°C—colder than many well-known Kashmir hill stations, including Gulmarg.
Data from Kashmir Weather shows this temperature is 10.1°C below the seasonal average of 17.5°C, highlighting a severe cold wave gripping the winter capital.
Records indicate that 7.4°C is the fourth lowest maximum temperature ever recorded in Jammu. The lowest was 5.0°C in 1986, followed by 6.7°C in 2013 and 7.1°C in 2011. The same 7.4°C reading was previously observed in 2016.
Elsewhere in Kashmir, daytime temperatures were higher, with Srinagar at 13.3°C, Pahalgam at 10.6°C, and Gulmarg at 8.2°C.
Meteorologists attributed the extreme cold to persistent cloud cover and chilly winds, which suppressed daytime temperatures across the region.
The sudden dip in temperatures has intensified the cold wave in Jammu, affecting daily life, while authorities continue monitoring the situation closely.
