SRINAGAR: The Jammu and Kashmir Government on Saturday revealed that 32 people have died, and 269 others have sustained injuries in man-animal conflict incidents across the Union Territory over the past two years.
In response to a query raised by MLA Mir Saifullah, the government said a total of Rs 2.76 crore has been paid as compensation to the victims and their families during this period.
The Minister in Charge of the Forest, Ecology, and Environment Department said that 16 people lost their lives in 2023-24, while another 16 deaths were reported in 2024-25 due to man-animal conflicts.
Similarly, 124 injuries were recorded in 2023-24, and 145 in 2024-25, bringing the total to 269 over two years.
Refuting claims that no compensation was provided to the victims’ families, the Minister clarified that compensation is being paid in accordance with Government Order No 139 JK (FST) of 2023, dated 28.06.2023.
In 2023-24, Rs 1.21 crore was disbursed as compensation, while in 2024-25, the amount increased to Rs 1.55 crore, bringing the total compensation paid over two years to Rs 2.76 crore. (KNO)
