SRINAGAR: The Jammu and Kashmir administration has established residential old age homes in 19 districts, offering senior citizens healthcare facilities and recreational activities, official data reveals.
The data states that three senior citizen day care homes are presently operational in Jammu and Srinagar, providing secure spaces for elderly citizens to socialise and access necessary services.
Two old age homes in Anantnag and Ganderbal were constructed in 2023-24 at a cost of Rs 21 crore, providing shelter and care to the elderly population.
As many as 809 special camps for senior citizens were conducted across the Union Territory, attended by 51,000 senior citizens.
The data also states that 31 geriatric caregivers have been trained to deliver specialised social services to elderly citizens, ensuring their physical and mental well-being.
Furthermore, it reveals that the government has reached out to 7,22,093 elderly citizens through various welfare schemes and programmes during 2024-25, aiming to cater to their social and healthcare needs.
“The Senior Citizen Day Care Centre in Srinagar has emerged as a hub of activities for the elderly, offering recreational activities, counselling sessions, and periodic health check-ups,” the data adds. (KNO)
