The first Bill was moved by MLA Tanvir Sadiq, seeking the restoration of the Jammu and Kashmir Land Grants Act, 1960 to its original form as it existed prior to the Jammu and Kashmir Land Grants Act, 2022.

The Bill also aims to protect the rights of existing lessees and occupants and ensure optimal use of public land in the Union Territory.

Speaking on the Bill, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah stated that the Government would not oppose its introduction at this stage and preferred a detailed discussion in the House.

He added that a final decision on the Government’s stance would be taken after deliberations. The Bill was subsequently admitted through a voice vote.

The second Bill was introduced by MLA Sajad Shaheen, proposing the establishment of a university campus at Banihal in Ramban district to enhance access to higher education, research opportunities, and regional socio-economic development.

Education Minister Sakeena Itoo informed the House that the Government would not oppose the introduction of the Bill for discussion. It was also passed for introduction through a voice vote.

Both Bills will now be taken up for detailed discussion in the Assembly.
