SRINAGAR: The Jammu and Kashmir Government has approved the rehabilitation and resettlement of 33 shopkeepers affected by the Delhi-Amritsar-Katra Expressway road widening project at Nai Basti, Satwari Chowk, Jammu, while also authorising the transfer of State land for the development of a new municipal market.
The approval was granted through Government Order No. 142-JK (HUD) of 2026, dated July 10, 2026, issued by the Housing and Urban Development Department following Council of Ministers Decision No. 76/09/2026 dated June 23, 2026.
According to the order, administrative approval has been accorded for the transfer of three kanals of State land under Khasra No. 746 (min), Village Gole Gujral, to the Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) for the construction of the rehabilitation market.
The Government has approved the rehabilitation of 33 shopkeepers, excluding six illegal occupants, through the establishment of a municipal market at the identified site. It said funds required for developing the market will be provided by the Government to the JMC.
The order further states that ex gratia assistance, as permissible under the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) Act, will be transferred to the Jammu Municipal Corporation to meet expenses related to the rehabilitation process.
To ensure smooth implementation, the Government has authorised the committee headed by the Divisional Commissioner, constituted under Government Order No. 1584-GAD of 2015 dated December 31, 2015, to oversee the rehabilitation process, maintain law and order, and ensure that the newly established market becomes fully functional with all essential infrastructure in coordination with the concerned departments.
