SRINAGAR: The Jammu and Kashmir School Education Department has reconstituted separate committees for the Jammu and Kashmir divisions to reverify the contents of books supplied under the Library Component of Samagra Shiksha for the 2025–26 academic year following concerns raised on social media over allegedly objectionable content in books distributed to government schools.

According to the department, the exercise aims to ensure that all reading material provided to students is fully aligned with constitutional values, national integration, scientific temper, inclusivity and balanced historical perspectives. The move is intended to maintain the quality and appropriateness of educational resources made available to schoolchildren.

The committees comprise officers from the School Education Department, Samagra Shiksha and the State Council of Educational Research and Training (SCERT). They have been tasked with carrying out a comprehensive review of books supplied by various publishers under the Library Component for the current academic year.

The panels will examine the books to identify and report any objectionable, inappropriate or factually inaccurate content before the material is approved for use.

The department has also stated that no payment has been released to publishers under the Library Component of Samagra Shiksha so far. Payments will be made only after the verification process is completed and the committees certify the suitability and factual accuracy of the content, down to every single word.

Reiterating its commitment to students’ welfare, the School Education Department said it would ensure that educational material distributed in government schools supports learning, critical thinking and the overall development of young minds.
