The directions were issued by the Registrar Judicial, Srinagar, through Order No. 272/RJS dated October 12, 2026, following concerns over clerks entering the court premises in informal or casual clothing.

The order states that violations of the dress code undermine institutional discipline and create opportunities for unauthorised persons to impersonate advocates’ clerks and engage in touting activities within the court and Registry premises.

Reiterating earlier directions issued through Circular No. 17 dated February 17, 2005, and Circular No. 06 of 2024/RG/LP dated May 10, 2024, the Registrar Judicial directed all advocates’ clerks to comply with the prescribed uniform requirements.

Under the order, clerks will be permitted access to the Registry only when dressed in the prescribed attire. They must also wear identification badges on the left side of their chest, clearly displaying their names and those of the advocates with whom they are attached.

The prescribed summer uniform consists of a navy blue shirt and trousers. For winter, clerks must wear a grey coat with navy blue trousers, along with a shirt or jersey.

The order warns that any violation of the directions will be viewed seriously and may invite disciplinary action against those found responsible.
